Tongue−Brain‐Transported ZnO Nanoparticles Induce Abnormal Taste Perception (Adv. Healthcare Mater. 17/2023)

چکیده

Taste Perception In article 2203316 by Longquan Shao and co-workers, tongue–brain transported zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) can induce neuroinflammation in the gustatory cortex (GC), reduce synaptic transmission neurons, ultimately lead to abnormal taste perception. Based on this unique discovery, inhibiting or enhancing provide positive effects for treatment of perception abnormalities.

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).

By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.

Human bitter taste perception.

Bitter taste perception is innate and induces aversive reactions. Since numerous harmful compounds, including secondary plant metabolites, synthetic chemicals, inorganic ions and rancid fats, do taste bitter, this basic taste modality may be considered as a defence mechanism against the ingestion of potential poisons. For a complete understanding of this defence mechanism it is obligatory to id...

Mammalian taste perception

What is the relationship of Aurora kinases and cancer? All three members of the Aurora kinase family are overexpressed in multiple solid tumors, which is perhaps not surprising considering their functions in cell division. As more and more smallmolecule Aurora kinase inhibitors are being developed, these inhibitors can be used not only for cell-biological studies on the functions of Aurora kina...

Abnormal taste perception in mice lacking the type 3 inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor.

Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (IP3R) is one of the important calcium channels expressed in the endoplasmic reticulum and has been shown to play crucial roles in various physiological phenomena. Type 3 IP3R is expressed in taste cells, but the physiological relevance of this receptor in taste perception in vivo is still unknown. Here, we show that mice lacking IP3R3 show abnormal behavio...
